Photographer Biography: Jared Katz

Biography »

Jared Katz recently graduated from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies with a Master's degree in International Relations, with concentrations in International Law, Conflict Management, and Economics. His Master's is supported by a BA degree in International Relations and Global Business management from the University of Southern California. Upon graduation from USC in 2006, he backpacked through South America, Asia and Africa to witness firsthand the political, economic and cultural issues he had found so interesting in college. Along the way he established a non-profit organization supporting cultural understanding and volunteered and interned in often unstable and conflict-ridden countries. Witnessing the horrors of conflict and oppression motivated him to contribute more constructively to the development of international human rights and conflict prevention and resolution. He has received honorable mention in the UNDP Picture This Photography Contest, and has had photographs and articles published in Academic journals, Demotix, The New York Times, and The Washington Post. He is currently based in Bangkok, Thailand.
