A largely self taught photographer, Zann Huizhen Huang went on a backpacking trip around Asia in December 2004 and began her first serious foray into photojournalism in January 2005, after the tsunami. Since then she has been trying to build a portfolio on the road. In less than a year, she joined World Picture News in December 2005.
Zann’s works have been published in TIME magazine, Choc, IKONO, Le Monde, L’expresso , Geo Italia, AOL, United Nations (UNFPA) and Asian Geographic. Her works have also been exhibited in Noorderlicht 2006: Another Asia. In Sept 2007, her works on the ‘Cambodian Glue Kids’ were selected as the top 5 finalists by Care International Humanitaire Award 2007 and was on exhibition in Visa Pour L’image.
As an emerging photographer, Zann has also received three Honourable Mentions for the UNICEF photographer of the Year 2006, the International Photographer of the Year Award 2006 and the PX3 Prix De La Photographie Paris 2007 for her work on ‘Ayatollah Khomeini and his legacy’ and ‘Cambodian Glue Kids’. She also clinched the Humanity Photo Awards UNESCO 2006 (Documentary category). Zann contributes to the United Nations on humanitarian and environmental issues and is based in the Middle East.Publications »
