Photojournalism for a globalised world!

Gaia Photos is global!

Documentary photo story posted on 30 January 2009 by Morten Svenningsen

Well, after less than 2 month of existence, Gaia Photos has now passed the first little milestone: We now have contributors in all 6 regions of our world! And I’m very happy about the team we’ve got assembled so far. It includes new talents such as 20 year old Kirill Tulin, experienced veterans such as John Watts-Robertson and many other distinguished colleagues, including a couple of World Press Photo awardees. All in all, the team currently includes 24 members, but there are even more distinguished colleagues waiting to join behind the scenes! Photographers are a busy lot, tending to travel around quite a bit. Some of the people I’m currently talking with are deep in the Amazon forest, on the road in Afghanistan or just came out of the sorry rubbles in Gaza…

So it all looks like we are well on our way to creating a success here! Although I haven’t made any efforts to spread the word around yet, I know some editors are starting to look to Gaia. And we are starting to see visitors popping in from Google, still with a modest ‘pagerank’ of zero! Soon, I will try and create some more publicity about our project here, but I think I will wait a bit until I have better time.

About the site design, I mentioned in the first post that I wasn’t really happy about it. Well – that has changed! I did a few tweaks and it all looks pretty nice now I think.

Thanks to everyone who has taken an interest in the project!
