Unveiling Women Behind Veils
All the way from India to the Middle East, women have traditionally adorned the veil, a sheer fabric to cover their hair and sometimes their face. While some wear it for purely traditional purposes, others will don it as a rite of passage when a girl grows from childhood to adulthood, as do women in Muslim cultures.
But the Veil has often been cast as a symbol of suppression against women and has been shunned by the western world as a sign of the “other world’s” primitiveness, forgetting that women in the west will wear a veil during church service as a way of exhibiting modesty while meeting God.
This is an ongoing project on women living with the veil. The aim of this body of work is not to show the veil as a symbol of repression, but to “unveil” a portrayal of women that will reflect on their dignity and strong character while staying true to their femininity.

Hi Laura
Thanks for your comments on the Baka story - I have had a look at your work on ‘Behind Veils’ and it is really beautiful - the images are poetic and lyrical even though they are dealing with a difficult subject. Well done!
